Week 7 felt like a good training week, but when I totted up the hours it fell short of the plan. This is something I’m going to be talking about again in my next post … almost a quarter of the way through Ironman training now (timewise, at least), so it’s a good time to evaluate what I’ve done and make plans and adjustments accordingly.
Had two good swims last week, one with NEWT on Tuesday, and on my own on Friday morning I swam a mile in about 45 minutes. That’s not super-quick for most people, but for me it’s a real step forward and I’m very pleased. Especially as I was dodging a) people who thought pool was for floating not swimming, and b) two guys who thoughts swimming diagonally is amusing. Ho hum.
Anyway, I also had a couple of good runs last week, but didn’t get out on the bike at all … three sessions on the turbo don’t really make up for that. Something to address in my next post, too.
One big positive was the Pontypool 10k that I raced on Sunday. My first race as a Pirate! I forgot my watch, which I think was a good thing. Racing just by feel is a great experience, and I finished in 47:08, averaging around a 7:30 mile. I was 77th out of 344 runners. Dead chuffed. Race report coming soon.
Right, that’s it for now, but I’ll be posting again in more depth later today or tomorrow.
