Been a busy time here delivering my new Star Wars novel … but that’s in now, so I can get back to a more structured training plan! Between now and the end of the year I want to improve my endurance levels ready for the start of the dedicated Ironman training plan. I’m reading Going Long right now, but still thinking I’ll be sticking to the Fink plan … or a slight variation thereof. I see sense in separating my long training sessions and not blasting them out saturday and Sunday. No monster weekend if I can help it. Anyway … still time to refine the IM plan.
Meantime, I’m back to training six days each week. Here’s the plan I’ve devised:
MONDAY
REST
TUESDAY
a.m. –– run (short, drills) OR strength
eve –– swim
WEDS
a.m. –– strength
bike (short, TT)
THURS
run (5k timed)
FRIDAY
a.m. –– swim
p.m. –– strength
SAT
long run (mixed road, trail)
SUNDAY
long bike
Oct –– 50 miles
Nov –– 75 miles
Dec –– 100 miles
On Wednesday I’m timing myself over a set course for the bike, and Thursday it’s a timed 5k run. These are my speed sessions, and I hope to see a little improvement in both by December.
I’ve also posted (above) my target distances on the bike. I’ve entered a 65 mile sportive in December, but would like to reach 100 miles by Christmas. That’s the target ride for Sunday 23rd December…. we’ll see!
